Lake of Stars Festival is an award winning music festival that takes place in the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ on the palm fringed shores of the continent’s third largest lake: Lake Malawi. The event promotes Malawian music and tourism, raises funds for charity and provides travellers and Malawians alike with the opportunity to enjoy incredible live music in an exotic and beautiful location. This year the event will take place at a new location with the venue being Nkopola Lodge in the Mangochi region on the Southern Lakeshore. Nkopola provides a perfect setting with an enclosed bay and a variety of hotels and lodges within a short transfer of the venue.
The festival was born from a desire to raise money for a developing economy, help promote Malawi as a tourist destination and expose Malawian artists to international crowds. Set on the shimmering, palm-fringed shores of Lake Malawi, international and african artists gather for a musical, social and cultural exchange unlike anything you will have seen before. For many the festival is the focal point of travelling around this beautiful country, forming part of an itinerary spanning what Malawi has to offer.

Sun n Sand is situated 10km from the Lake of Stars venue, with buses leaving on a regular basis daily from the hotel, which is approximately 5mins transfer time.

Essence of Malawi and Zambia -14 Nights
The below itinerary is designed for those on a tight budget but who still want to experience what Malawi and Zambia have to offer. The accommodation selected for this package is simple and functional but offering a unique experience. Should accommodation be booked out alternative arrangement will be made to accommodate guests at a similar standard of accommodation. Guests will take part in some community based activities, which will vary depending on the needs of the community at the time. $100 of the below cost will be donated to the local Kuti Wildlife Community Ranch. We recommend the adventurous type of person to join this trip.
Friday 9th October
Arrive into Lilongwe International airport where you will be met and assisted to the transfer vehicle. Road transfer from Lilongwe airport to Kumbali Village (30mins). This is based on a traditional Malawian community scene, accommodation being in traditional “village huts” - an introduction to the Malawi way of life.

Saturday 10th October – 13th October
After breakfast road transfer from Lilongwe to Kuti Community Wildlife Ranch (2h). Accommodation will be in simple thatched chalets at Sanga Camp. These have shared ablutions facilities (hot and cold water). Mosquito nets are provided in the rooms. Electricity (from a generator) is very limited so paraffin lamps and candles are provided at night.
Accommodation is on a room only basis – meals and drinks are available at extra cost at the onsite restaurant.
You will be met by staff from Kuti who will give you a full briefing and orientation on your time at the ranch. Your daily schedule and the community programs that you will be assisting with will be discussed in full on arrival. Each day you will be hosted by a local member of the community who will act as a translator and be on hand to assist you when necessary.
14th – 17th October
After breakfast you will transfer by road to Sun ‘n Sand Holiday Resort (3h), situated just north of Mangochi, on the palm fringed southern shore of Lake Malawi. Accommodation is in a standard superior room on a bed and breakfast basis.
Sun n’ Sand Holiday Resort is set in 22 acres of lush green gardens with 700m of sandy beachfront. There is a wide variety of activities and excursions on offer to the guests in addition to attending the Lake of Stars Music Festival at the nearby Nkopola Lodge (5min road transfer – Ulendo will be running regular shuttle buses to the venue. These will be at additional cost to be paid directly by clients)

18th October
After lunch you will transfer by road to Lilongwe (3h). Accommodation is at Kiboko Town Hotel in a standard room on a bed and breakfast basis.
19th October
Today you will depart for your Zambian safari in South Luangwa NP – approximately a 5-6 hour road transfer including immigration stops in Malawi and Zambia. Picnic lunch enroute. ETA is mid afternoon at the lodge just outside South Luangwa NP.
Accommodation is in simple ensuite chalets or safari tents on a full board basis.
20th - 21st October
Full days in South Luangwa – you will be taken on 4 game drives (2 x morning, 2 x afternoon/evening drives).
22nd October
After leisurely breakfast you will depart on road transfer back to Lilongwe (5-6h). Accommodation is at Kiboko Town Hotel in a standard room on a bed and breakfast basis.
23rd October
Road transfer from hotel to Lilongwe airport (30min) to connect to international flight
