Lengwe

The most southerly of Malawi’s national Parks, Lengwe lies within the lower Shire Valley about 50kms south of Blantyre and bordering to the west with Mozambique. With over 300 species of birds recorded the park also provides a sanctuary for the shy, beautiful Nyala antelope along with a variety of other species including Buffalo, Impala, Kudu, Bushbuck, Reed Buck, and comical Warthogs. Hyena are also resident in the park and their calls can often be heard by visitors at night. Lengwe is not renown for large concentrations of wildlife however the small water hole close the lodge does allow visitors to observe some excellent game at close quarters. Majete Game Reserve is close to Lengwe and considerable investment into the reintroduction of key species will ensure the long term sustainability of the Lower Shire Valley’s wildlife population.
